Virginia Alumni Mentoring connects motivated and career-focused students with alumni who can provide insights about the process of choosing and starting a career in their specific field. The program provides students and alumni mentors a structured means of initiating a professional relationship to discuss career interests and how to prepare for their career.

Semester-Long Mentoring

Semester-long mentoring requires communication at least once a month. This allows for a deeper dive into goal setting, review of application materials, networking, and much more.

Flash Mentoring

Students can engage with mentors for quick advice, or “flash mentoring,” through the VAM portal.

Mentor Tips

All alumni are encouraged to participate regardless of their distance from Grounds. In-person meetings are outside of the scope of this program. To sign up:
  • Create an account
  • Set up your mentor profile
  • Update your mentoring preferences under Account > Participation for semester-long and/or flash mentoring
    • Semester-long mentoring: indicate your “Max Mentees” preference to set the number of students you are available to mentor during the semester.
    • Flash mentoring: indicate your “Max Inbound Contacts” preferences to set the number of students you are available to receive messages from during the semester.

Mentee Tips
